The Stage
There are 25.000.000 of CCTV cameras that are operating around the world. As the technology and security expert Bruce Schneier talked in his "The Security Mirage“ speech, governments choose to equip cities with security cameras to create a fear of the public and a false sense of security on the people rather than improve to intelligence science to upgrade security and provide the protection in real terms. This refers to “Security Theater” which is security measures that make people feel more secure without doing anything to actually improve their security. In my project, I shot a short movie with the CCTVs that are shared by Izmir Municipality for the public to criticize CCTV’s uselessness and security theatre.
